Sport is harsh, you always have contrasting emotions at the end of a game because only one person can win. Look at the faces in the Namibia camp. For a side that only got it’s ODI status in 2019, this is rapid progress and their performance today against a strong Dutch side is testimony to how much they have come up as an international team.
The chase started well through the openers but in the matter of a few overs, they were in tatters at 51/3 in the ninth over. The asking rate was mounting and the Dutch were eying a win as well as a net run rate boost.
But their party was gatecrashed by Wiese who brought all his experience to the fore, smashing the bowlers for fun. His counterattack with skipper Erasmus all but sealed the game for Namibia. The latter couldn’t see the game through but by the time he was gone, the result was more or less decided.
Netherlands would rue some of their bowling tactics which were shocking to say the least. They kept bowling the slot to a powerhouse like Wiese and he made them pay dearly.
